Events in Des Moines

Diane Weber 04.8.2021

This weekend is quickly approaching and there’s so many events in Des Moines going on that you will not want to miss: music, outdoor recreation and more!

Friday

7PM Iowa Wild Hockey at Wells Fargo Events Arena

6-8PM Tyler Frazier of The Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Hashpipe perform at The Hall

7:30PM (Friday and Saturday) opening weekend for Rogers and Hammerstein’s Some Enchanted Evening

Friday is all about the music. Playing at The Hall in West Des Moines is Tyler Frazier and the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with Hashpipe – A Tribute to Weezer filled with a little bit of everything.  This is the perfect show that’s fun for the whole gang especially if you and your friends have different tastes in music. The Hall will also have food and drink available for purchase at this free (and family friendly) event. The Hall is also located near the new Jerry’s Homes Development of Willow Creek.

If you are wanting to keep your distance, The Des Moines Playhouse is putting on Rogers and Hammerstein’s Some Enchanted Evening. This event is entirely virtual and the tickets can be purchased online. Both of these sound fantastic to me, and we are in luck! Some Enchanted Evening will be performing through May 9th.

Saturday

9:30AM Loop the Lake at Gray’s Lake

6PM Iowa Wild Hockey

6:30 -9:30PM  Gina Gedler & The BoyMusic at the Winery

All Day! Pickleball at Smashpark in West Des Moines.

7PM Juilliard String Quartet Livestream

9AM – 4 PM Flea market at Fair Grounds

Now that Friday is covered, lets take a look at what events in Des Moines are on the agenda for Saturday. Gray’s Lake is the place to be starting at 9:30am for their annual “Loop The Lake” run. If you forget to register by the 8th, show up early and still be able to register for the 9:30am run. This is a COVID safe run with multiple washing stations set in place. If running isn’t your thing but you are still wanting to be active, Smash Park is putting on a pickleball tournament all day long! Children can play in a tournament from 10am to noon and adults are from 7 – 10pm. If you are looking for a little more of a  musical weekend, Julliard String Quartet is putting on a livestream at 7pm and Gina Gendler & The Boys will be at Covered Bridges Winery from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. If you want to watch some hockey, attend the Iowa Wild Hockey game on Saturday while there’s a Mason Shaw Bobblehead Giveaway to the first 1500 fans.

Sunday

10AM Blooms and Booze

Lastly, Sunday at 10am Sip Studios is putting on a Booze and Blooms event at Smash Park where there will be an instructor showing how to make a beautiful flower arrangement in a paint-your-own-planter while enjoying cocktails and brunch. Make the arrangement for yourself or paint it for Mother’s Day. Whatever event in Des Moines that you decide to do this weekend, be sure to stay safe and have fun!
