Garage size guidelines

Not sure what the proper size should be for your garage?
Whether you’re designing a custom home, adding on a garage or buying a house, the single biggest mistake is underestimating the amount of space needed in your garage. Here’s a helpful guide to understand the standard garage size requirements for most vehicles.
One thing to keep in mind is that your vehicle will change over time. And make sure that you add at least 5 ft around the vehicle so you can open doors on both sides. Good luck!
Height
When considering the height of the garage, think about door clearance, the garage door openers, headroom, overhead lighting and of course storage. Don’t forget about that car antenna!
Width
Extra width is always a plus. Ideally, you should be able to open the doors on both sides while also having a little space to move around them. If you plan to store items such as lawnmowers, refrigerators or a tool bench, you may want to consider adding or purchasing a home with an extra stall.
Depth
In a perfect garage, you’ll want to be able to walk completely around your car while it’s parked. It’s also important to consider where you will store items in you garage. Nothing is worse than getting “door dinged” in your own garage!
