Make your small bathroom appear bigger

In one way or another, you’ve probably come across a home with a small, if not tiny bathroom. Maybe you’re living with one. If you feel like your half bath or guest bathroom is shrinking, then it might be time to give it a new look. There are plenty of ways to make your small bathroom appear bigger and with the right design, it might become your new favorite room! Below are some design ideas that you should consider.
Keep the color scheme “Light and Bright”
Don’t have dark walls and light tile (or vice versa) because this will chop up the space visually and make it seem smaller. A wood floor or light colored tile with light colored walls give a bathroom a nice serene feeling. Also, think about the amount of natural light that comes in from a window to make your bathroom appear brighter.
Go big on mirrors
A large mirror will always give the illusion of more space and you don’t need to limit yourself to just one mirror either. Consider installing a floor to ceiling mirror, especially if you’re lacking any natural light. Mirrors can add the illusion of more space. This can also be true for any room of your house!
Add more tile
No need for paint! Tile is a durable way to add a creative impact to your tiny bathroom. Don’t just stop the tile once you hit the shower, continue the tile into the shower so the transition is nice and clean. Think about running the tile from the floor and up the walls to give it a more expensive feel. A nice clear shower door will show off that tile work and also helps to make the bathroom appear bigger as well.
Keep the sink small
If you have a small bathroom, you don’t want to overwhelm the space with a large and bulky sink. Instead, you’ll want to choose a small sink that complements the proportions of the room. If you choose a pedestal sink, keep in mind that you may need to find alternative ways for storage. Maybe a tiny corner sink can be useful. There’s no rule that says you must have a standard-sized sink. A corner sink gets the job done just as well—plus it gives you plenty of space and less to clean.
Install a pocket door
Pocket doors are a great way to make your bathroom appear bigger. Although this isn’t feasible in every bathroom setting, replacing your door with a pocket door that tucks away into the wall or even a barn door can open up room for additional storage and space inside the bathroom.
Keep the floors clean
No matter how you decide to remodel your small bathroom, always try to keep the floors clean. Covering the floor with a storage containers can create a cramped space, not to mention it can cause tripping hazards. A pedestal or floating sink keeps the floor clear and installing floating shelves will help keep everything you need up high and within reach. Get creative with your bathroom project and have fun! Good luck!
