What is the perfect size for a bedroom?

Did you know that we spend more time in bedrooms than in any other room in the house? Even though we are sleeping most of that time, we start and end our days there. So how can you determine what the perfect size for a bedroom should be, especially when you are building a new home?
Start with your bed.
Queen-size beds are a great size for two people and does not require a large room. They measure 60 inches wide and 80 inches long and can also be found in an 84-inch length. King-size beds provide lots of comfort for two people and give extra space to spread out while sleeping and measure 76 inches wide and 80 inches long. The bed is a focus point in your bedroom and should be positioned in a location where you can have easy access to lighting and side tables for functionality and convenience.
Consider furniture.
How many night stands will you need? Do you need a dresser? One of the most important things to consider when planning a bedroom is that there should be a wall to accommodate the bed and a wall to accommodate a dresser. You also need to consider the height of the nightstands and dresser. Maybe you don’t need a lot of furniture but want more space for dressing area and possible a sitting area. On average, allow 30-36 inches in diameter to give yourself enough circular space to dress. If you want a sitting area in your bedroom, you may need space for tables as well as chairs and/or love seats. Most likely, you will need an area that is 10 by 10 feet.
In new construction homes with less than 2500 square feet, the average master bedroom size is 14 feet by 16 feet or 224 square feet. See this diagram below.
Your bedroom is without a doubt the most personal room in the home and deserves a lot of attention. You can find more great bedroom design ideas here.
